The Drum & Bass Review Show Recap (Part 2)

I cannot believe the Review Show is 50 already!

Since its launch listeners numbers have increased, chatroom interaction has increased & downloads have simply snowballed. On Sunday 12th June 2011 we will be having another re-cap of the shows. Same Format, one tune per show & I’ll try to fit in all 25 tracks.

See you in the chatroom of UK Bass Radio.

SoundCloud & MixCloud

Ok, we are coming towards a year of the Drum & Bass Review Show now I for one am loving the set up. I’ve mentioned for a while that I want somewhere for this to live where you can refer to the shows, re-play them or even download them for your personal listening.

We have a home. In fact, we have 2 homes. As well as the Facebook pages we have, SoundCloud & MixCloud are online social networks dedicated to playing your sounds. Head to the pages where you can follow me, play, comment, favourite & request. They’re very interactive sites & pretty fun.

Big thanks go out to A-Sides who suggested that I check out MixCloud after SoundCloud was my first stop.

The 2010 Drum & Bass Review

You may well have come across a Southampton based outfit called Codename:Headz. Front men, Bobby Flex & J Skeptik are quite frankly, an absolutely quality duo on the decks. The selection is correct, the mixing is correct & above all, their attitude is correct.

For this years Drum & Bass Review show & for the first time ever, I will not be delivering the review, but have been in chats with the Codename:Headz lads through this year. On 9th January 2011, Bobby Flex & J Skeptik will be dropping the 2010 Drum & Bass Review.

We’re sure you’ll find that the guys will be carrying the torch in perfect style with their selection. The show begins at 8pm on UK Bass Radio, straight after my show so move nowhere.

PS. Happy New Year everyone.

The Drum & Bass Review Show Recap (Part 1)

With the DnB Review Show in full flow now we’re going to need to re-cap every so often.

This Sunday 21st Nov 2010 will be the first of the re-caps & I’ll drop these ones after every 25 shows where it’ll consist of a single track from each of the shows up to that point.

If there’s any artists, labels or show types you fancy seeing hit me up in either here or on the chatroom at UK Bass Radio.

Kool FM Tribute Site

Aside

Check out this bad boy.

A Kool FM Midlands tribute site has been launched with the plan of archiving as many Kool FM Midlands shows as can possibly be found. If you have or you know anyone that has any recordings from the Kool FM crew, get in touch with the site & they’ll give you their e-mail address to forward this on for the archive.

Of course, provide as much info as possible. I have a stack of shows on Mini Disc so those will be sent straight over.

The Drum & Bass Review Show

First mentioned back in November & discussed live on our UK Bass Radio show, it’s now time for the new old.

Ever since my first radio show, I’ve been the biggest nerd you could possibly know. Logging, cataloguing, noting & researching the tunes I’ve added to my collection. Each year, I’ve treated you to the Annual DnB Review & those shows were not just a summary of the year passed. They were just the beginning. The Drum & Bass Review show will breathe new life into playing old tunes.

This is not merely going to be an excuse to become an ‘old skool’ DJ. This will grow to become the ultimate Drum & Bass Reference Show. We will focus entire shows on everything from a single artist or label right through to skimming the A-Z’s so that we will not forget producers or labels that simply haven’t got a full shows worth of material. We’ll be checking out remixes & comparing non-DnB tracks with the DnB versions. I’ll be dropping mix sessions so we can just enjoy pure music as well as taking a dip into sub genres & dub plates to see what has shaped the sounds of Drum & Bass.

Tune in to UK Bass Radio from Sunday 2nd May 2010 from 7pm for there new one hour format.

Meanwhile, back onto the annual reviews, I have been discussing this torch with Bobby Flex & J-Skeptik of the Codename:Headz crew. Check back later in the year for more on this class act.

The 2009 Drum & Bass Review

Yes. It’s yet another year of Drum & Bass coming your way with a line up just s strong as ever.

Lock your ears to UK Bass Radio on Sunday from 7pm for a 2 hour marathon with selection from the light to the nasty. Then, after this & each week we’ll be going back 1 year at a time before, each week, another year is looked at & then come March time, a single show spanning the decade from 2000 to 2009.

Beyond these shows there is something very special on the horizon.

Have a Merry Christmas & enjoy the ride.

Winds of Change

Status

Ok, it’s time for a personal message from the heart:

Times change & working in music, this is no different. One minute we’re buzzing on every vinyl we get hold of, the next we’re listening to track after track & wondering where the magic has gone.

This can be seriously jarring. The love is there, so why don’t the beats work? It could triggered from anything such as a change in taste, a change lifestyle, a change in what makes us tick or quite simply a desire for something new. I’ve seen stacks of close crew move to other scenes telling me Drum & Bass isn’t what it used to be. And you know what, they’re right.
